Updated for the 2026 season
The fantasy trade deadline, explained
The two weeks before your deadline are your last chance to reshape your roster. Contenders should trade depth for starters, and everyone should sell the players running hot before the market notices.
Two deadlines, not one
- The NFL deadline is Nov. 10, 2026, at 4 p.m. Eastern. After it, NFL teams can't trade players, so roles settle for the rest of the season.
- Your league's deadline is set by your league. Check your league settings. Many leagues close trading in November.
Watch the NFL deadline even if your league trades later. A receiver traded to a new team, or a starter traded away, can change a player's role overnight.
If you're a contender
- Turn depth into starters. Two good bench players rarely help you in the playoffs. One better starter does.
- Buy playoff schedules as a tiebreaker. Between two similar players, take the softer Weeks 15 to 17. See our playoff schedules by position.
- Sell the hot streak. A player scoring well above his chances is likely to cool off. Read positive and negative regression, explained.
- Cover your byes and your weak spot. Fix the week or position most likely to cost you a playoff game.
If you're on the bubble
- Pick a direction. One more average starter rarely changes your odds. Push in or step back.
- Use what's left of your waiver budget. A pickup costs nothing in trade.
If you're out of it
Many leagues expect teams out of the race to stop trading, and some leagues have rules about it. Read the room and our trade etiquette guide before you offer.
Superflex checklist
- Quarterbacks with their byes done. A QB bye in the playoffs costs you a starting spot.
- Know your roster limits. If your league caps how many quarterbacks you can roster, a trade for a third one may not be allowed.
- A backup plan at QB. In superflex you start two, so one injury can leave you starting a backup.
Price every offer
Run each offer through the trade machine before you send it, and aim for a deal that helps both teams. Fair offers get accepted, and they keep people trading with you next year.
